We multiply two rational numbers by multiplying their
amounts first and then adding (subjoining) the algebraic sign (positive or
negative), following these rules:
Ø
If we multiply two factors that have the
same algebraic sign, which means they are either positive or both negative,
the result will always be positive.
Ø
If we multiply two factors and the
algebraic signs are different, which means one is positive and one negative,
then the product will always be negative.
The same rules count in division like in multiplication.
First, we divide and then the algebraic sign is added following these rules:
Ø
Both numbers are positive or negative,
positive quotient.
Ø
The numbers are having different algebraic
signs, negative quotient.
