There are two possibilities that we have available to
use:

Adding or subtracting the rational number on both sides
(all equivalence changes have to be calculated on both sides!!). We have
to be careful with products: Products are not to be taken apart. The
product must be added or subtracted together, self-evidently on both
sides.

Multiplying or dividing with a rational number (also on
both sides). This number can by no means be zero!
Example:
– 3 ∙ x + 9 = 0 | + 3 ∙ x
9 = 3 ∙ x | : 3
3 = x
